Lip Neutralization

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Lip neutralization is a semi-permanent tattoo that neutralizes hyperpigmentation (darkness) in the lips using customized pigments. The most common causes of hyperpigmentation is genetics, smoking, sun exposure, hormonal changes, and illness.

  • Color correction is the priority in your first session to start working to balance the darkness in your lips and to cancel out the cool tones. We are often able to begin adding color in the first session but this depends most on how you absorb the pigment and your level of hyperpigmentation. You CAN get your lips blushed, but we need to neutralize them first.

  • Lip neutralization can last 2-5 years, with occasional touch-ups recommended to maintain the desired color. This all depends on your lifestyle and skin type. The sun is one of the main reasons permanent makeup fades. You can prolong your semi-permanent tattoo by wearing a lip balm that contains SPF.

  • Each session is spaced about 8 weeks apart to allow proper healing and color modification.

  • Typically, 2-3 sessions are required to achieve the desired results. But, please note that results cannot be guaranteed and the amount of sessions needed will differ from person to person. Some clients will need two sessions while other clients may need more.

  • Lip blush is a more extensive process if you have darker lips. More melanin-rich lips have a darker blue or purple tint, which hinders pigment color from showing up accurately on your natural lips. Lip Neutralization is used to balance out the skin’s undertones and lighten your lips. Lip neutralization, a form of lip blushing, uses an orange based pigment to even out the undertones, eliminate dark spots and slightly lighten your lip shade. 1-2 additional lip neutralization sessions are needed for the best results. While you can do lip neutralization alone, it is often done as a prerequisite to a normal lip blushing procedure. The healing process for a lip neutralization tattoo is similar to that of a standard lip blush tattoo (around 10-14 days to initially heal and up to 8-12 weeks to fully heal).

  • Initial results are visible immediately, but the final color will emerge after the healing process, typically within 6-8 weeks.

  • You will be considered a new client and will be required to complete the same process as new clients.

    • Initial Healing (Days 1-3): Lips may appear darker and slightly swollen.

    • Peeling Phase (Days 4-7): Expect some peeling and flaking as the lips heal.

    • Color Settling (Weeks 2-4): The final color will gradually settle and lighten.

    • Full Healing (Weeks 6-8): Complete healing and final color stabilization.

    • Final Healed Result: 8-12 weeks
